General Monitors”S4000C and S4100C combustible gas detectors are now suitable for use inSafety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 applications commonly found in industries where the potential presence of dangeroushydrocarbon-based combustible gas is a threat to people, equipment, andfacilities. The S4000C Detector is a hydrocarbon gas detector that issuitable for SIL Level 3 applications and is FM, CSA, ATEX, CE Marking, and GOST-approved. It features a three-digit display and anexplosion-proof housing, which allows all data to be processed locallyat the sensor site.  The S4000C is also available with an optionalrelay configuration that is appropriate for SIL Level 2 processes. Withits catalytic bead sensor, the S4000C Detector monitorscombustible gas and vapors within the lower explosive limit (LEL) andprovides status indication and alarm outputs. When the sensor detectsgas, it initiates a four to 20 mA alarm signal that is proportionate tothe zero to 100 percent LEL gas concentration present and communicatesthe alarm notification to the safety system. Designed for the Europeancommunity, the S4100C Detector is a hydrocarbon gas detector that issuitable for SIL Level 3 applications and is ATEX, CE Marking, GOST,and Kazakhstan-approved. It features a three digit-display and anexplosion-proof housing, which allows all data to be processed locallyat the sensor site. The S4100C also features a catalytic bead sensor. It is designed to measure and display concentrations of combustiblegases in the zero to 100 percent LEL range, but will continue todisplay concentrations up to 120 percent LEL. The sensing element maybe incorporated in the transmitter housing or remotely mounted atdistances of 600 meters. As part of its SIL offering, General Monitorshas developed a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Online Resource Center. The site is located at: www.gmigasandflame.com/sil_lead.html.
