Robert G. Parman has been promoted to director of the newly created Environmental and Safety Systems Department at Southwest Research Institute (www.swri.org). He was previously manager of the Safety and Industrial Hygiene Department.

Parman, who joined the SwRI staff in 1999, has more than 20 years of experience in environmental and safety compliance for engineering and explosive manufacturing firms.

At SwRI, Parman has been responsible for supervising a staff that manages more than 50 safety and environmental programs for SwRI operations ranging from air emissions management to occupational injury/illness prevention. He also has provided safety and environmental improvement guidance to SwRI’s 11 technical divisions and its service groups, and serves as manager of the SwRI ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

In his new role as director, Parman will be responsible for the Radiological Health and Safety group and will continue to oversee all aspects of safety and environmental compliance for SwRI operations.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and technology from Middle Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in business administration from The University of Texas at San Antonio.
