Fluid ComponentsInternational”s ST50 aeration flowmeter, which supports line sizes from two to24 inches (51 to 610 mm), is now available with an exclusive wirelesscommunication option. Utilizing built-in wireless IR technology, the ST50 flowmeter and a standard PDA allow field technicians to obtainmeasurements, make setting changes, and read troubleshooting codeswithout ever having to open the instrument. The wireless feature is agood fit for applications of flowmeters in hard-to-reach locationswhere opening the instrument is inconvenient or labor intensive. WirelessIR sensing capability is included in all ST50 aeration flowmeters witha digital display readout. To complete the system, FCI suppliesuser-interface software for downloading into any Palm OS-based PDA. The metermeasures air flow from one to 125 SFPS (0.3 to 38 NMPS), nitrogen fromone to 150 SFPS (0.3 to 46 NMPS), and compressed air from four to 400SFPS (1.2 to 122 NMPS). Accuracy is +/- 2 pecent of reading, +/-0.5 percent of full scale, with repeatability of +/- 0.5 percent ofreading. The meter is field configurable for flow range in standardmass flow or volumetric engineering units. In addition to the wirelessIR I/O, the meter features dual analog outputs, four to 20 mA and zeroto 10 VDC. Designed for long-life in outdoor and field installationconditions, the meter’s sensing element is constructed of stainlesssteel with Hasteloy C tips. Its electronics are housed in anall-aluminum, epoxy-coated enclosure that is NEMA 4X (IP66) rated andFM/CSA approved for hazardous location installations.  Itwithstands operational pressures up to 500 PSIG [34 bar (g)] andoperates in media temperatures up to 250 F (121 C).
