Turbo Lab will offer machinery vibration and rotordynamics course

The Turbo Lab, a center of the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) and part of The Texas A&M University System, will host an extended short course, Machinery Vibration and Rotordynamics, January 6-10, 2020, in Houston. The course offers concepts and techniques to engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of rotating equipment. Fouad Zeidan, independent consultant and former president/owner of KMC Bearings, Plus Inc., will teach the course with Turbo Lab professors Adolfo Delgado, Luis San Andres and former Turbo Lab director Dara W. Childs. The course is designed to benefit both young engineers and veterans. It will cover basic vibration theory and how to use it to solve mechanical vibration problems experienced in the field. Rotordynamics terminology in common use will be defined and explained, including critical speeds, critical speed inversion, unbalance response and rotordynamic instability. The course will earn attendees 3.0 Continuing Educations Units (CEU) and will be hosted at the DoubleTree by Hilton near Houston Intercontinental Airport.

Schneider Electric appoints president of Process Automation business

Schneider Electric promoted Nathalie Marcotte to succeed Gary Freburger, who is retiring, as president of its Process Automation business, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Since joining the Schneider organization in 1996, Marcotte has held several positions, including vice president of Global Performance and Consulting Services; vice president, North America marketing; general manager for the Canadian business; and, prior to her current position, vice president of marketing, Global Systems business. As the company’s current senior vice president of Industrial Automation Services, she is responsible for Schneider Electric’s Services business, ranging from product support to advanced operations and digital services. Marcotte is also responsible for the company’s Global Cybersecurity Services & Solutions business, including the Product Security Office.

Cynash enhances its analytics appliance for cybersecurity

Cynash Inc., a developer of industrial control system (ICS) cybersecurity solutions for critical energy, water and transportation, announced a new release of its Cynalytic analytics appliance. The device, which acts as an intrusion detection system and behavioral monitoring tool for serial communications-based ICS/SCADA networks, now includes advanced alerting such as logical operators and other new features. The enhanced appliance builds on Cynalytic’s suite of data visualization and dashboard tools to help users monitor and make sense of historically unmonitored and unprotected serial communications.

Ohio Transmission Corporation acquires Pumps, Parts and Service Inc.

Ohio Transmission Corporation, an industrial equipment service provider and distributor headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, acquired Pumps, Parts and Service Inc. (PP&S), an industrial pump and repair company with service locations in the Southeast. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, PP&S has 47 associates in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. The company will become a division of OTP Industrial Solutions, which provides technical sales and service for industrial automation, motion control, fluid power, pumps, spray finishing, sealant and adhesive application and power transmission systems and products. PP&S will continue to operate under its current name and with the current local management.
