To kick off the opening day of its fourth annual GE Minds + Machines conference this week in San Francisco, GE announced several product launches, updates and strategic partnerships. News of note from Day 1 includes the following:

SmartSignal Powered by Predix

GE introduced its predictive analytics solution, SmartSignal, as part of GE Digital’s Asset Performance Management (APM) solutions on the Predix platform. Touted as the first purpose-built cloud platform for industry, SmartSignal powered by Predix provides anomaly detection with early warning capabilities that is SaaS-based for a price point that is accessible to a broader range of distributed equipment. Integrating and aggregating data from design to service and leveraging analytics, the platform aims to provide data in context, enabling the right information at the right time for better decision support throughout the manufacturing process.

Brilliant Manufacturing Suite

GE announced the next version of its Brilliant Manufacturing Suite designed to maximize manufacturing production performance through advanced real-time analytics. GE’s Brilliant Manufacturing Suite aims to allow customers to begin to realize their own vision of integrating and aggregating data from design to service and leveraging analytics to support decision making. The suite leverages GE’s Predix platform for edge-to-cloud connectivity, security and manufacturing analytics.

GE and Cisco Collaborate on Reference Architecture

GE and Cisco have teamed up to develop a set of best practices for deploying GE’s Brilliant Manufacturing Suite within a modern Cisco IT environment. This reference architecture from GE and Cisco, dubbed “Architecting a Robust Manufacturing Network for the Internet of Things,” provides a blueprint for combining GE’s digital industrial solution platform with Cisco’s networking infrastructure in order to create a digital thread that will capture machine data on the factory floor. This solution will marry GE manufacturing software with Cisco’s networking technology.

GE and PTC Form Broad Strategic Alliance

GE and PTC announced a strategic partnership with the aim of delivering a manufacturing solution that will be available within GE’s Brilliant Manufacturing Suite. The GE-branded solution leverages the capabilities of PTC’s ThingWorx Industrial Internet of Things application enablement environment. The result is what GE describes as an “industry-hardened” solution that features flexible dashboards and powerful data analytics integrated with GE’s software capabilities on the manufacturing plant floor. The joint solution is designed to connect disparate systems and offer a dashboard with consumer-like drag-and-drop capabilities tailored to each user’s role.

As part of their agreement, GE and PTC will align their respective global manufacturing sales and marketing teams to jointly pursue opportunities worldwide. The GE-PTC solution will be implemented within GE’s internal manufacturing plants as part of its Brilliant Factory initiative.
