The American Water Works Association (AWWA, www.awwa.org) published a new handbook titled Ozone in Drinking Water Treatment: Process Design, Operation, and Optimization. The publication focuses on the design, operation, maintenance, control, and optimization of ozone disinfection in drinking water treatment.

Topics covered include: how ozone is applied to treat various types of water contaminants; where within the treatment train to install ozone; and how to design, operate, and optimize ozone facilities.

The handbook is intended for water utilities that use or are considering ozone treatment, design engineers who are involved with ozone system planning and design, and laboratories and researchers that are involved with bench- or pilot-testing, as well as regulatory agencies responsible for enforcement, design review, and inspections of plants that use ozone.
