Do you know which systems in your plant are the biggest energy users? The Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Program (www.eere.energy.gov/industry) is providing plant operators free downloads of a new software tool called Quick Plant Energy Profiler (PEP), which is designed to identify energy-intensive systems within plant environments and offer solutions for energy and cost savings. The beta version has just been released, and the DOE says it is applicable to any industrial plant. Users enter information about the energy purchased or generated and plant production data, and the software generates a report that identifies energy flow, major energy-use processes, and cost distributions, with suggested next steps for improvement.
