ISO 50001 is a new, voluntary energy management standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which the U.S. Department of Energy is promoting on its website as a valuable tool for industrial and commercial organizations to effectively employ energy management strategies. According to DOE, the standard provides industrial and commercial facilities with an internationally recognized framework to manage and improve their energy performance. Today, 33 U.S. facilities are implementing an energy management system that conforms with ISO 50001.
