Japan’s Azbil Corporation (formerly Yamatake) has acquired majority ownership of VorTek Instruments, LLC, a U.S. manufacturer and supplier of vortex flowmeters.

Azbil Corporation’s U.S. subsidiary, Azbil North America, Inc., acquired a 70 percent stake in VorTek Instruments on December 31, 2012. The company became an azbil Group company and will change its name to Azbil VorTek, LLC.

Based in Colorado, VorTek Instruments is a global company engaged in the development, manufacture, and sale of vortex flowmeters with temperature and pressure compensation. It features a lineup of vortex flowmeters with integrated temperature and pressure compensation, including insertion meters for large pipe applications. Its main applications are utility steam measurement/control of building HVAC and food processing plants, steam measurement/control of town gas manufacturing plants, and steam and supply measurement/control of various processes.

Azbil said this capital tie-up will augment and strengthen Azbil’s flowmeter product lineup, which will enable the company to expand the development of its global business. Also, Azbil believes the acquisition will strengthen its flow calibration and product development functions in North America.

Sales for VorTek Instruments is forecast to be 3 billion Japanese yen in four years.
