Bosch Awards Balluff Inc. North America Supplier Award

Balluff, a manufacturer of sensors, was recently presented with the Bosch North America Supplier Award. Bosch celebrated this event in Mexico City. "The Bosch Supplier Award goes to outstanding suppliers who play a key role in the Bosch Group’s success and further growth of Bosch in North America" said René Schlegel, president of Robert Bosch Mexico, at the presentation ceremony on Nov. 12, 2014.

TouchStar Receives Frost & Sullivan 2014 Product Line Strategy Leadership Award

TouchStar, a multinational provider of logistics Enterprise and Mobility software solutions, has received Frost & Sullivan’s 2014 Integrated Fleet Automation Solutions Product Line Strategy Leadership Award. The award represents TouchStar’s leadership in providing comprehensive automation solutions to fleet organizations in the Upstream Oil & Gas market. The FleetAtlas Framework is an integrated set of on-premise and SaaS solutions that improve efficiency and management of fleet and mobile workforce resources. With solutions spanning Telematics, Dispatch, Mobility, Compliance, Planning, and Business Intelligence, organizations can expand from basic GPS fleet tracking to comprehensive, automated accounting and route optimization within the singular framework.

Armstrong Fluid Technology Receives Frost & Sullivan Customer Value Award

Armstrong Fluid Technology has been presented with a Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Award in recognition of world-class performance in business strategy, operations and customer service. At a gala ceremony in Toronto on Dec. 2, 2014, members of the senior leadership team were presented with the Customer Value Award in recognition of the outstanding return on investment provided by Armstrong solutions. In particular, Frost & Sullivan highlighted Armstrong’s Design Envelope technology, which redefines the traditional economics of energy and sustainability to provide both lowest installed cost and lowest lifetime cost. The Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize superior leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development.

Yaroslav Chudnovsky

GTI’s Yaroslav Chudnovsky Recognized as 2014 ASME Fellow

Yaroslav Chudnovsky, Ph.D. and Institute Engineer at Gas Technology Institute (GTI), has been recognized for his outstanding engineering achievements by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). With almost 20 years of active practice and membership in ASME — a not-for-profit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines — he was nominated for this honor by his peers. As a senior staff member at GTI, Chudnovsky has over 30 years of experience in engineering, design, laboratory/field evaluation and deployment of advanced energy exchange and combustion systems and technologies, as well as project/program management experience. Throughout his career, he has conducted basic and applied research and development of advanced, low-emission, high efficiency, and high heat transfer systems and technologies for industrial applications.

Siemens Awards High School Students in STEM Competition

Three students from Hilliard, Ohio and Albuquerque, N.M. were awarded top prizes at the 15th annual Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, a  research competition for high school students. Peter Tian, a senior at The Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio, won the $100,000 Grand Prize in the individual category for mathematical research on pattern avoidance for multidimensional matrices. Eli Echt-Wilson and Albert Zuo, seniors at La Cueva High School, Albuquerque, New Mexico, will share the $100,000 Grand Prize in the team category for research on computational models for tree growth. The Siemens Competition is a signature program of the Siemens Foundation, a supporter of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in the United States. The Competition is administered by Discovery Education. The 15th annual awards were presented Dec. 9 at The George Washington University, host of the 2014 Siemens Competition National Finals.

Sturtevant Welcomes Steve Puleo as New Product Manager

Sturtevant, a manufacturer of material processing equipment, recently hired Steve Puleo as Product Manager, reporting directly to Sam Rajkovich, Director of Sales & Marketing. In this position, Puleo is responsible for business development activities related to the Simpactor, Powderizer and Infestroyer product lines. Puleo comes to Sturtevant with 18 years of commercial manufacturing experience selling fabricated solutions to the medical instrumentation, energy, fire and life safety, and semiconductor industries, as well as the military sector.

MCAA Announces New Board Members and Officers

MCAA President Cynthia Esher has certified the election of officers and directors for 2015. Bob Carrell was elected Chairman and Joe Incontri will serve as Vice-Chairman. Peter G. Martin and Stan Ronna were elected to Director-at-Large positions on the MCAA Board. Carrell is the President of Hoffer Flow Controls Inc. Incontri is Director of Marketing at KROHNE Inc., the North American arm of KROHNE AG based in Peabody, Mass. Martin currently serves as Vice President and Fellow for Schneider Electric-Invensys in Foxboro, Mass. Ronna is the President of Automation Products Group Inc. of Logan, Utah.

Raj Batra Elected to the NEMA Board of Governors

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) elected Raj Batra, president of Digital Factory for Siemens USA, to serve on the Board of Governors during its recent annual meeting in San Diego. Batra will serve a two-year term expiring in 2016. Joining Siemens in 1993, Batra has held a variety of high-level management and sales positions including President Industry Automation, VP & GM of Automation and Motion Division, and Director of Automotive and Aerospace Businesses. NEMA is the association of electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers, founded in 1926 and headquartered in Rosslyn, Va.

Acquisitions, Expansions & Business Deals

PIRTEK Continues Texas Expansion with the Opening of PIRTEK Broadway

PIRTEK opened its newest Hose Service Center in San Antonio, Texas.  The addition of this new center increases the number to five locations servicing the state of Texas with three locations in Dallas and one in Houston. Inventory includes 3600, 5000 and 6000 PSI hydraulic hoses, quick disconnect couplings, adapters, hose clamps, pressure wash hoses, nozzles and wands, pressure gauges and 50 foot utility hoses. The Hose Service Center will also act as a home base for three on-site hose workshops that are available 24/7. The Hose Service Center, located at 9008 Broadway St., San Antonio, Texas 78217, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Emerson Acquires Cascade Technologies, Expands Gas Analysis Portfolio

Emerson has acquired Stirling, Scotland-based Cascade Technologies Ltd., a manufacturer of gas analyzers and monitoring systems using Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) technology. This technology measures multiple gases simultaneously to enable industrial emissions monitoring, production efficiencies, and environmental compliance. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Emerson is expanding its analytical measurement capabilities by adding this laser technology to its Rosemount Analytical gas analysis portfolio.

Harbour Group’s ONICON Acquires Flowmeter Maker Greyline Instruments

ONICON Inc., a Harbour Group company, has acquired flowmeter manufacturer Greyline Instruments Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Greyline designs and manufactures ultrasonic flowmeters and level sensors that utilize Doppler, transit time, and area velocity technologies.  The company’s customers operate primarily in the water, wastewater, environmental, and industrial markets. Greyline was founded by Bill Robson and Ernie Higginson, and is based in Long Sault, Ontario, with additional operations in Massena, N.Y. Robson and Higginson will remain with the company, according to an official announcement.

Smith Flow Control Appoints New US Distributor

Smith Flow Control, specialists in mechanical valve control equipment and valve management systems, has added ACE Controls & Equipment Inc. to its distributor network in the United States. Located in Bakersfield, Calif., ACE Controls serves the oil, gas, water and processing industries, offering services such as start-up and commissioning, valve actuator adaptation and mounting, certified calibration, and repairs

Great Plains Industries Sponsors Crossland Motorsports Racing Team

Great Plains Industries, Inc. (GPI) announced its co-title sponsorship of the Crossland Motorsports/ PBRmx racing team. With MotoSport.com as the title sponsor and Honda providing factory support, the official name for the team will be MotoSport.com/GPI/Honda racing. The racing season kicks off Jan. 3, 2015 in Anaheim, Calif.
